Volleyball is a team sport played between two teams of six players each, separated by a high net. The objective is to score points by sending the ball over the net and grounding it on the opponent’s court, while preventing the opposing team from doing the same.

Key Features of Volleyball:

1. Court & Equipment

  • Played on a rectangular court (18m x 9m) divided by a net (2.43m high for men, 2.24m for women).
  • A volleyball (leather or synthetic, 65-67 cm circumference) is used.

2. Gameplay Rules:

  • Each team has three touches (bump, set, spike) to return the ball.
  • The ball must not touch the ground on your side.
  • A point is scored when the ball lands in the opponent’s court, they fail to return it, or commit a fault.
  • Matches are played in best-of-five sets (first to 25 points, with a 2-point lead; 15 in the 5th set).

3. Player Positions & Rotations

  • Setter, Outside Hitter, Middle Blocker, Opposite Hitter, Libero (defensive specialist).
  • Players rotate clockwise after winning a serve.

4. Variations:

  • Beach Volleyball (2v2, played on sand).
  • Sitting Volleyball (Paralympic version).
