Cricket is a bat-and-ball team sport played between two teams of 11 players each on a circular or oval-shaped field centered around a 22-yard (20-meter) pitch with a wicket at each end. The game is played in various formats, including Test matches, One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and Twenty20 (T20), with different durations and rules.

Key Elements of Cricket:

1. Objective:

  • The batting team aims to score runs by hitting the ball and running between the wickets.
  • The **bowling and fielding team** tries to **dismiss** the batsmen and restrict runs.

2. Playing Area:

  • Pitch: A 22-yard strip with a wicket (three stumps and two bails) at each end.
  • Boundary: The outer edge of the field where hitting the ball over it scores 4 (ground shot) or 6 (direct aerial shot) runs.

3. Gameplay:

  • Innings: Each team gets a turn to bat and bowl (one or two innings, depending on format).
  • Bowling & Batting: The bowler delivers the ball to the batsman, who tries to hit it and score runs.
  • Fielding: The opposing team attempts to stop runs and take wickets via catches, run-outs, etc.

4. Dismissals (Ways to Get Out):

  • Bowled (ball hits stumps), Caught (fielder catches hit ball), LBW (leg before wicket), Run Out (fielder breaks wicket before batsman reaches crease), Stumped (wicketkeeper removes bails while batsman is out of crease), etc.

5. Scoring:

  • Runs: By running between wickets or hitting boundaries (4 or 6).
  • Extras: Runs given for no-balls, wides, byes, leg-byes.

6. Match Formats:

  • Test Cricket (5 days, two innings per team).
  • One-Day International (ODI) (50 overs per side).
  • Twenty20 (T20) (20 overs per side, fast-paced).
  • T10 & the Hundred (shorter formats).

7. Key Roles

  • Batsmen, Bowlers (fast, spin), All-rounders, Wicketkeeper, Fielders.

8. Governing Body:

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) oversees international cricket.
